Classic Furniture Little Petra Gives You a Sense of Relaxation

Its mild design style brings a pleasant sense of comfort and relaxation to home life.

When architect Viggo Boesen first introduced Little Petra in 1938, it received great praise at the furniture exhibition in Copenhagen at that time and subsequently won awards at exhibitions in New York and Berlin.

After nearly 80 years of silence for its original design sketches, &Tradition made its first attempt to introduce Little Petra into its product line, bringing the long-sealed original drawings deep in the archives of designer Boesen to life, fortunately revitalizing this forgotten gem, Little Petra.

&Tradition is a Danish home furnishing company founded in 2010 that combines tradition with innovation, technology with art, to create a collision of functionality and visual aesthetics, reflecting the mission of the &Tradition brand. Its product line includes classic works from the 1930s and design excellence from internationally renowned designers today.

&Tradition has created classic designs ranging from Verner Panton’s unconventional Flowerpot, which was first produced in the late 1960s, to Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen’s Mayor, and Viggo Boesen’s Little Petra chair.

Architect Viggo Boesen

Viggo Boesen (1907-1985) was a relatively unknown designer. The functionalist villas he designed and advocated in the 1930s were very popular at that time. His works were associated with the iconic Danish design aesthetics of the 1930s. Judging from the gentle appearance of Little Petra, the Funkis style can be described as a forerunner of the Danish modernist movement.

Little Petra

Little Petra is one of the few designs by architect Viggo Boesen, and it is often associated with the funkis style, the iconic Danish design aesthetic of the 1930s. Known for its softer, richer, and more organic aesthetic style, it challenges the minimalist Bauhaus style.

Little Petra was originally launched in 1938 and received rave reviews when it was first exhibited at the Copenhagen Craftsmen’s Association exhibition. Subsequently, it also won awards at exhibitions in New York and Berlin.

From the handcrafted wooden chair frame to the manually sewn leather finish, the Little Petra lounge chair embodies Boesen’s love for organic materials. Its mild design style brings a pleasant sense of comfort to home life.

With its compact, embracing chair body and low seat, Little Petra is not only suitable for any space and style, but Boesen also envisioned practical conditions that enable a comfortable and perfect seating position for all types of sitting, making it a contemporary classic.

“Little Petra is a true discovery in the Danish design archive,” said Martin Kornbek Hansen, founder of &Tradition.

&Tradition has relaunched this classic piece, respecting the designer’s love for natural materials by using oak or walnut for the chair legs and pairing them with warm and soft wool, making it loved by all.

In the history of Danish home furnishing design, no chair has been as cute and eye-catching as Little Petra. Wrapped in natural wool, the embracing backrest and soft cushion bring a skin-friendly experience that nurtures both body and mind, endowing every user with a sense of healing and warmth at home.
